Cosplay Preview: Mirai Kuriyama

In a few weeks it will be another convention down on my con schedule. Scary!

They're always so stressful to get ready for even if you're not cosplaying like I am. I'm currently running around like a headless chicken all, "I won't be ready in time! What do I do? I'm going to be left in trouble!"

Actually, this convention has had a lot of bad sides for me so far but I hope that just means the event itself is extra good.

One of the characters I'm cosplaying as is Mirai Kuriyama from Kyoukai no Kanata. I actually didn't like the series but by the end I was crying like a little baby. After some decision I decided that I too could be as cute as Mirai.

Camwhoring is fun when you look cute~

The outfit is actually super warm and comfy, I think I might die from overheating! But it's better to be warm than cold.

The circle lenses I'm wearing for her are EOS New Adult Brown. Her eyes are more of a light brown than yellow so I wanted lenses which would reflect that and these do a pretty nice job of it! Even if I did put them in backwards originally!

5 Circle Lens Tips

Having finally been bitten by the bug that are circle lenses, I thought it would be useful for both you guys and myself if I did a post on them.

Aka, circle lens safety.

It’s easy to say that you know everything about them already but I was horrified recently when I learnt that one of my friends had taken the lenses straight out of the glass vial and into her eye. I think that once you’ve worn them for a certain amount of time it’s easy to get complacent and think that you can bypass certain things.


1. Visit your optician to make sure your eyes are suitable.

This is important since you might not have a base curve that works well with lenses.

If you’re like me and have had laser eye surgery it’s even more important as the surgery can alter your eye. Even if you’ve been able to wear lenses beforehand it might have changed so it’s important to get it checked. I went to see my optician before even purchasing my lens just to make sure that my eyes would be suitable.

So yes, visiting your optician is very important! Otherwise you could be risking your eyesight and to be frank, it’s not worth it.

2. Buy your lenses from a trusted source.

There are lots of reliable sellers out there but remember you always get what you pay for. Cheaper lenses could be damaging to your eyes or even fakes which would cause eye damage.

GEO Medical is a good brand to start looking at as they have an anti-fake system which means that your lenses will be 100% legit and not fakes. Other reputable stores include Pinky Paradise and Honey Color.

3. Keep track of expiration dates.

This is super important! Putting out-dated contact lenses into your eyes risks damaging them. I change the cases of mine every six months and keep the expiration dates in a notebook next to where all of my lenses are stored so I know which ones I can throw out. Mine run out in October so I’ll stop using them mid-September just in case.

4. Put the lenses in before your make-up and with clean hands.

I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure you have clean eyes when handling lenses! You don’t want a horrible eye infection ruining your looks, do you?

If you put your lenses in after putting your make-up on not only do you risk ruining your make-up but you also risk getting make-up onto the lenses and then into your eyes. Uh-oh, that’s bad!

5. If they hurt, take them out.

I can’t stress the importance of this! It’s really important because if it hurts it could mean there’s something wrong. Always listen to what your body is telling you. I was once in a photoshoot and my eyes were starting to hurt really badly and I ended up walking off set to take them off. Everyone totally understood because your vision is important.

If they hurt, take them out and use artificial tear eyedrops to help soothe them. After an hour or so my eyes felt normal again and it had no effect on my vision.


To summarise:

4. Put the lenses in before your make-up and with clean hands.

Reasons I'm not Gyaru

To some people gyaru is a lifestyle, to some others it's a fashion, but I'm the kind of person who doesn't want to be held under any labels. I think the sweet style is cute and I like to follow Liz Lisa, Ank Rouge, etc. but even brands such as MA*RS and d.i.a catch my eye.

1. I'm terrible at styling my own hair.

I can style wigs. I can do a ponytail. And that just about wraps up the extent of how nicely I can do my own hair. Anything with heat always falls out because I'm lucky enough to be born with quite naturally straight hair.

Also, I had blonde hair once before. You know what?

I looked freaking awful with it.

For now, staying a brunette is a lot easier for me to work with.

2. I'm shy.

Gyaru is all about being out there and not caring what people think of you. It's about expressing yourself.

As for me, I'm super duper self-aware and shy. I once wore some false lower lashes out and about and I spent a lot of my time with my head bowed looking at the floor because I was worried about people staring.

Even after, I went to the bathroom and took them off 30 minutes later.

I don't have the gyaru attitude at all.

3. Accessories.

Uh oh. Here's a confession.

I have a tendency to misplace a lot of my accessories. I'm forever losing them and in public I've seen me accidentally drop rings on the floor, etc. I'm clumsy and forgetful and for some reason, the one thing I always lose is accessories.

Not underwear. Not socks.

Just expensive accessories.

Oh dear.

4. The community.

I've seen some parts of the community seem wonderful but it has such a bad repuation nowadays. I hear about fighting and drama a lot and as someone who is introverted and wants to live peacefully, it's just not for me.

I've seen people argue in the overseas community over silly things such as hobbies, etc.

Perhaps I'm being ignorant but I can't help but feel this way.

5. I look really stupid with false lower lashes.

For real. It's embarrassing! Because it's a key staple in any gyaru's make-up, even if I were to go around calling myself gyaru when I would have silly make-up and not fit the part.

I look ridiculous with them on seriously.

I almost feel ashamed at how bad I look in them.

To be honest I feel really embarrassed to show you guys the full picture because it was embarrassing but here, look. Have a giggle at my expense. You deserve it.


I can never show my face again, it's so embarrassing! I now must wear a paper bag over my head at all times.

Due to these five reasons and a plethora of others such as I often choose to ignore trends to wear what I want to, etc. I'm not gyaru.

I'm a simple girl who does what she wants to without any thought or planning.

Born Pretty Wishlist

Today I want to speak to all of you guys about a webstore I discovered. I’m always on the lookout for cheap but pretty accessories so I think I hit the jackpot with Born Pretty!

1. Multi Pearl Stretch Bracelet, £2.99
Once upon a time I used to wear a really similar style of bracelet to this. I broke it and could never find something similar without all of the bows on for a cheap price so I’m really pleased to see this.

2. Vintage Flowers Fake Collar Necklace, £5.95
Look at this. Look at it. Do you see how lovely it is? I’d expect to see something like this retailing at £10 in a high street store so this is a bargain. It’s such a statement piece! I think this is my favourite out of everything!

3. Lacy Bracelet Wavy Patterned Chain Link Ring, £2.03
I thought this was really pretty and it caught my eye. I think this would be a lovely statement piece on a simple dress. The bow makes it look really girly and feminine too and it would totally stand out from the crowd. It’s c-u-t-e!

4. Luxury Ring Exaggerated Retro Bejewelled Design, £1.79
How can this ring be so cheap? It looks really expensive and expensive and it’s totally not! I’m all about statement pieces recently and can you imagine showing this off? It’d look lovely with a little black dress or a vintage kind of outfit.

5. Beautiful Shell Rhinestone Jewellery Tibet Silver Bracelet, £2.99
This really caught the eye of my inner geek. I’m sure we’ve all heard of Game of Thrones and this bracelet reminded me of Daenerys Targaryen, aka Khaleesi. I’m sure all of the female fans have wanted to be a khaleesi at some point so I think this is perfect. Once again it’s like, at a fraction of the price that I would expect it to be. You could say this is totally fit for a princess. Or you know, a khaleesi.

6. Star Décor Anklet, £1.79
I’m usually not the kind of person to wear anklets but this caught my eye. It doesn’t completely stand out but it looks delicate and the stars are a nice touch. You could wear this in a girly outfit or a bit more of a ‘rock’ style in my opinion. At that price I can’t exactly grumble.

7. Full Rhinestone Rhythm Pendants Music Note Necklace, £1.79
This is really sweet and not so stand out that it’d like, completely overwhelm an outfit. It looks really delicate and could be worn in a lot of styles I think! If something can be worn in a lot of styles and is cheap it’s a definite bargain in my opinion!

8.Cute Leaf Shaped Hair Pin, £2.60
I don’t think I can stop calling things from this store ‘cute’! Once again I found something really cute and it’s in my favourite colour! It’s a lot different from the stereotypical flower hairpins so it’s a unique piece.

9.Vintage Elegant Camellia Flower Necklace, £2.35
I chose this because it’s not as expensive as the collar I saw earlier and it looks similar to some items I saw at Tatty Devine once. At a snip of the cost, as usual.
